《百万碎片》读后感(四):it’s you who make this decision.
“When you get down, or you don’t think you can fucking do this anymore, just hold on, and sooner or latter, the shit is gonna get better.”
This is what Leonard, James’s friend told him. And when the Fury rose, he just let it be.
A million little pieces told a story about the Addict but the main idea of it isn’t calling on distance from drugs and alcohol. It is the personal experience of the writer, James Frey. He used to be an Alcoholic and a drug Addict and a Criminal. At the age of twenty-three, he was sent to the Clinic where is no crack no rock no alcohol. He feel desperate. But he met Leonard who taught him a lot. And the kindness from his family and his friends made him better. With the help of many people, James stayed sober and decided to be a Human instead of an Addict. He gave up the treatment and decided to start a new life. He made decisions and he did it.
“Although genetics and a genetic link may be unpredictable, everything about us is genetic, and everything about our physical selves is predetermined by a genetic link. If an individual is fat but wants to be thin, it is not a genetic disease.”
Maybe it is why James can succeed. It is because he refused to call addiction a disease but a decision. He took responsibility for his own problem and weakness, had his own rules and made decision on his own. He held on although the difficulties still existed.
On the way of life we have to make many decisions. Although some of them are hard to make, there is still a decision and you are the decider. Sometimes we may complain that we are not a lucky dog and there is always someone or something preventing us from being succeed. But the fact is that we make our own decisions. We may be floored but we can pick up. We may feel pain but we can pick up. We may be floored again but it’s always possible for us to pick ourselves up. And all of those decisions form our way of living. We write our own destiny.
esides telling me how to hold on, this book also changes my ideas about the Addict. I would think they were rude and blindness, but it’s me who are rude and blindness to judge people so random. We should respect others. It may be just a period of time from a decent people to an Addict. And most of the reason is that they lose someone or something important in their life. It’s not worth getting being so terrified when hearing about an Addict. Addiction can cover anything. Hobby is fortune, but addiction is danger. Fortune or danger, it’s still a decision.
And it’s you who make this decision.
